WITNESS DENIES HE FORCED ANWAR'S EX-DRIVER TO LIE

 

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- A Special Branch officer denied in the High Court here today that he was instructed to force a man, who had accused Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of sexual misconduct, to lie.

ACP Mazlan Mohamed Din said: "I was never instructed to force Azizan Abu Bakar to lie."

Special Branch Director Datuk Mohamed Said Awang only instructed him to neutralise Azizan and he regared it as an instruction to get Azizan to retract his allegations against Anwar, he said under cross-examination by Gurbachan Singh, one of Anwar's counsel.

Today is the 10th day of the foremr deputy prime minister's trial on four charges of committing corrupt practice by using his position to interfere in police investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct against him.

Gurbachan Singh: Mohamed Said never instructed you to force Azizan to lie?

Mazlan: Mohamed Said instructed me that night (Aug 17 last year) to neutralise Azizan and I regarded it as an instruction to get a retraction of Azizan's allegations (against Anwar).
